Our Year 13 Health and Social Care students went on a trip to Budapest to explore the differences between the British and Hungarian Education and Social Care systems.
We visited the Cseppko Children’s home, our students were visibly moved to discover that children as young as newborn babies are placed in the children’s home for a variety of reasons but also if their parent/s cannot afford to feed them.
We also learned that Hungary to do not have a welfare policy and as such parents do not have access to Universal Credits and other benefits as in the United Kingdom.
Interestingly, they do not have a Department for Education or a Social Care Department, it is all controlled by the Police department who have control of the education and social care system.
We had some leisure time which involved going to a water park, souvenir shopping and sightseeing, a great time was had by students and staff alike.

Animal care club is an opportunity for the pupils to meet different types of pets, and to help them understand the responsibility and financial implication of pet ownership so they can make an informed decision when they are adults. In the future they will meet other animals including snakes and a tortoise.
Callie Year 7 commented: 鈥渢oday was the best day ever! I met 3 guinea pigs called Twix, Peanut and Bandit. I was able to feed all of them a piece of carrot. I loved this experience and I love this club!鈥�
Wool4School is an annual student design competition encouraging budding fashion and textile designers to showcase their creativity and innovation using wool. Students create a unique design made from wool, taking inspiration from the Wool4School brief. From fashion design to architecture, visual arts, and beyond 鈥� there鈥檚 no limits to their area of design.
On Thursday, Ela and Lucas took part in a post-16 careers fair at Woodlands school.
This event is crucial in in guiding students towards possible courses which will lead them to exciting future careers.
The evening consisted of Ela and Lucas talking about personal experiences with their courses and their enjoyment of Sweyne Park Sixth Form.
Ela and Lucas did an amazing job at representing the school during this crucial evening and helping year 11 students from their previous school make decisions on their next steps.
We hope to welcome many more students from Woodlands next year.

This week is banned Books Week and our display is certainly getting a lot of attention & debate! All these books, and many more, have been banned or officially challenged in libraries across the globe, some with very surprising reasons!

Ella C in year 7 competed in her first showing competition, with her two miniature shetland horses “Betty boo” and “baby”.
Winning 1st class with baby. Then going on to get a 2nd place, including healthiest condition award with Betty.
Ella went on to place 3 more times with each of the ponies.
